  • A Quinta da Lage Herdade da Lage Lda. Caixa Postal 2316 Castelão. 7630-436 São Luís Portugal (map)

Come learn with us the basic techniques of wood carving. In this 4hr workshop, you will explore with Ricardo ways of how to create objects from wood.

From a simple spoon to an elaborate sculpture, there are no boundaries between creation and expression.

Our workshops offer a range of different carving classes around the area. These classes are designed for people of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced carvers. The workshops are perfect for those who want to learn the art of wood carving or for those who want to improve their skills.

One of the best things is that no experience is required.

All of the tools and wood are provided, so all you have to do is show up and be ready to learn. Ricardo is passionate about teaching others the art of wood carving and providing you with the guidance and support you need to create your own unique sculpture.

The workshops are also a lot of fun. They are a great way to meet new people and to learn a new skill.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced carver, you will have a great time.

Price: €60

Additionally, lunch will be provided at 8 euros.

Facilitator:

Ricardo Marques is a self-taught artist from Portugal with a passion for sculpture. From a young age, he has been fascinated by the art form.

In 2003, he decided to travel to Ireland to expand his horizons. During his eight years there, he held numerous exhibitions, installations, workshops, and residencies.

While in Ireland, Ricardo had the opportunity to work alongside master carvers such as James Dunbar, Jackie McKenna, Fred Conlon, and Martha Quin at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre. It was here that he honed his skills and developed his unique style. Ricardo's work is characterized by his exploration of feelings and emotions, which he translates into abstract and organic forms using primarily stone and wood.

Today, Ricardo is back in Portugal and runs Elfic Wood Works, where he creates wooden spoons and shares his knowledge through workshops around the country.

Despite his success, Ricardo remains humble and continues to push himself creatively, always striving to improve his craft.
